More Large Work
This is an opportunity to progress from the monochrome expressionist portrait painting from last week - apply the same free expression to a totally different subject - landscape or whatever you wish. You may consider moving away from black and white into a tint or even colour, but for those who missed last week look at the suggestions below and maybe work on that - plenty of free advice available.
2nd April
Large Work Led by John
John has a trick up his sleeve - all will be revealed on the day. Bring A3 to paint on, black and white paint - emulsion, acrylic - anything, and brushes no smaller than 1 inch width. Also source material if you can find it, large monochrome image - see the colour supplements this week, particularly dramatically lit with high light and shade.
26th March
The Sea, The Sea Led by Linda
Second session based on the sea and the work of Maggi Hamblin for inspiration. For those feeling more adventurous, use the same equipment and paint effects in a totally different subject, say landscape, cityscape or portrait etc.to express the motion of features which may have the same dynamism as the flowing water - the new avant garde.
19th March
The Sea, The Sea Led by Linda

26th February
Barbara Rae Sessions Led by Clive
Using the best elements and inspiration from last week, plan for a major piece of work to be completed in the morning based on any landscape resource you wish, using any medium or method. The objective is to produce an impressive work and know what you had in mind from the start. Ideally trying to avoid the clear influence of recognised artists - let the art by yours.
19th February
Barbara Rae Sessions Led by Clive
The object is to be inspired to do something different and learn from looking at established artists.
I am hoping that we will find ourselves going out of our comfort zone, possibly in an abstract direction but with some clear thought process no matter if you decide to do still life, landscape, figure ........... or even buildings.
1) Choose any artist you like, look at their work and make a note of what you like about it and why. You might have many reasons.
2) Work out how you think they achieve what he/she does and how you could apply some or all of these elements to your own work.
Bring your notes - ideas / resources of what subject you are going to have a go at plus all the kit you need to do it.
Tuesday 12th February
Figurative Session with Ballet Dancer
Led by Robbie, bring easels and your favourite medium for a figure drawing session with Robbie's ballet dancer model. Poses will focus on weight bearing and centre of gravity.
Tuesday 5th February
Challenge your imagination session
Led by John Pumfrey
Strenuous artistic stretching is planned but no preparation or forewarning is being given or that would spoil the fun. Please bring your favourite and most expressive media - one for drawing and one for painting, plus A3 support. We are told that a drug test might be required including for absinthe and LSD!!! The mind boggles.
Tuesday 15th January 2013
Welcome back to an inspirational kick off meeting which will have a number of elements.
- With the aid of his wonderful sketch books, John will take us through his Mediterranean trip and explain the best ways he found to tackle the challenge of doing art on the move and to capture the essence of the places he visited.
- The rest of us - please bring any artwork we had a go at over the holiday, so that we can share and benefit from the experience no matter how successful or small
- Discussion on what we would like to include in this term.
- Cake and if there is time - a do your own art thing trying out all that new stuff you were given for Christmas.
